The Effect of Subjective Recovery on Quality of Life in Patients with Schizophrenia in the Community

Abstract

|
|
Objectives : Subjective recovery in consumer perspective is gaining increasing attention. However, few studies have been reported in the literature. We investigate patients with schizophrenia and identify the effect of the subjective recovery on quality of life (QoL).
Methods : Data from the 97 schizophrenia patients were examined to appraise the effect of the subjective recovery. The Happy-Quality of Life Scale (Happy-QoL) was administrated to the patients and the level of QoL was assessed. They were interviewed using a standardized protocol consisting of the Korean Mental Health Recovery Measure (K-MHRM), Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Personal and Social Performance Scale (PSP), and Korean version of Drug Attitude Inventory-10 (KDAI-10).
Results : Regression analysis reveals that educational background and subjective recovery are main predictors for measuring the QoL of schizophrenia patients.
Conclusion : Results show that subjective recovery measured by K-MHRM is the most influential predicator out of all proposed socio-demographic and clinical factors. The finding signifies that improvement in subjective recovery makes schizophrenia patients perceive richer QoL than those who experience clinical recovery.
